Advanced Matching
Advanced matching is a device-recognition approach that tolerates small, expected changes in signal values, such as a browser version update, while still recognizing the same device. Unlike exact matching, it reduces false negatives caused by routine drift, keeping a device's identity stable as its environment evolves.
How Advanced Matching works
Advanced matching starts from the observation that a device's fingerprint is a moving target: browsers auto-update, fonts get installed, drivers change, and privacy tools perturb signals. Requiring every value to match exactly would fragment one device into many identities as soon as anything changed.
Instead, the matcher evaluates signals individually, applying models of how each is expected to change. It permits an anticipated shift in a specific signal, such as an incremented browser version, without penalty, while still requiring the bulk of stable, distinctive signals to agree before declaring a match.
This selective tolerance is combined with weighting and thresholds so that expected drift is absorbed but broad, simultaneous divergence across many signals is not. The result is recognition that follows a device through normal change while still refusing to merge genuinely different devices.
Why Advanced Matching matters for fraud prevention
Advanced matching is what keeps device intelligence useful over time, since real-world devices never present a frozen fingerprint. By absorbing predictable changes it prevents the false negatives that would otherwise let a returning fraudster appear as a brand-new visitor after a simple update. This directly strengthens defenses against multi-accounting, repeat abuse, and account takeover.
How TRACIO handles it
TRACIO applies advanced, drift-aware matching so a visitor ID stays consistent across browser updates and routine configuration changes rather than resetting with every minor shift. By anticipating how signals change and weighting them accordingly, TRACIO keeps false negatives low without merging distinct devices. This is a core reason its identification remains accurate on internal benchmarks as environments evolve.
